An initial phase of a rental apartment community with social and assisted-living services for seniors has opened its doors in Kapolei following delays and design changes.
The developer of the project called ‘Ilima at Lehano announced Monday that the 84-unit complex has been completed and is the first such residential complex in West Oahu with services including housekeeping and meals for seniors.
KISCO Senior Living, a California-based developer of senior housing, began building the $26 million first piece of ‘Ilima in early 2013 and projected a mid-2014 opening after reshaping what was initially envisioned to be a 40-acre retirement community with 800 homes.
Kisco scaled back the residential component of the Lehano master plan to 3.8 acres and has sold land to others for development that now includes a 180-room Embassy Suites hotel and a C.S. Wo furniture store under construction. A National Kidney Foundation facility with a community center, a First Hawaiian Bank branch and a St. Jude Parish church are also planned. Meanwhile, opening of the apartments for seniors was pushed back.
Amenities at ‘Ilima include a fitness center, salon, pool and cafe. Monthly rent ranges from $4,500 to $8,100 for independent living in apartments that run from 410-square-foot studios to 995-square-foot units with two bedrooms.
Rates include “resort quality” meals, weekly housekeeping, on-site activities and excursions for shopping, medical services and entertainment. Services for assisted-living that include memory care cost extra.
