Montana Liana threw two touchdown passes to help No. 5 Farrington beat Waianae 37-15 in an OIA Division I quarterfinal game at Roosevelt on Friday .
The Governors (7-1) face Kahuku in Thursday’s semifinals.
"Continuing our season on, having another week to play football is a blessing," said Liana, who threw for 131 yards. "We just have to keep working hard."
Waianae’s John Barbieto ran for 102 of his 110 yards in the first half.
The Seariders finished the season 5-4.
Ranan Mamiya, who was held to 36 rushing yards in the first half, had several long runs in the second half to put the Governors in scoring position.
He had a 50-yard carry early in the third quarter, dodging and weaving through several defenders, taking the ball to the Waianae 8.
Two plays later, Challen Faamatau took it in from the 4. Kekoa Sasaoka’s PAT gave the Governors a 28-7 lead.
A safety extended Farrington’s lead to 30-7. Mamiya later had a 24-yard run that brought the ball to Waianae’s 1. Mamiya scored on the following play and Sasaoka’s PAT made it 37-7. Mamiya finished with 141 yards.
"We were spreading him out, get him open, get him single coverage," Liana said. "Everybody doubles him. Once he got open, I wanted to take the opportunity because he’s the best athlete on the field and I can’t waste the opportunity."
The Governors sacked Waianae quarterback Ioane Kaluhiokalani Jr. five times.
The Governors scored two touchdowns in the game’s first six minutes. After Farrington recovered a Waianae fumble, Liana threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Kingston Moses-Sanchez. Faamatau’s 1-yard score and Sasaoka’s PAT gave the Governors an early 14-0 lead.
The Seariders scored with two minutes left in the first quarter. Multiple short carries by Barbieto helped Waianae move the ball, and Barbieto punched it in from 9 yards out.
"Waianae was keeping us off the field and keeping our defense on the field," Liana said. "They’re converting third downs and they kept running at us. They’re a great running team and we got to clean that up for next week."
Liana completed a 15-yard pass to Kaohu Kealoha and Sasaoka’s PAT made it 21-7 going into halftime.
