Kapaa public swimming pool reopens
The Kapaa public swimming pool will reopen today after a $300,000 renovation.
The majority of the work was on the men’s and women’s locker rooms, the county said in a news release. The old locker rooms built in the 1940s were demolished and replaced with two new buildings that have two restrooms, a changing room, three outdoor showers and a drinking fountain. The pool equipment room, located between the two locker rooms, was repaired and repainted.
A galvanized steel fence was replaced with an aluminum fence. The fence work was performed by Wellington Fence Co.
The general contractor for the project was George Kawamura, a Kalaheo-based company.
During the construction, county recreation department staff drained and power-washed the pool and and replaced missing tiles.
