FBI building new Honolulu Field Office

A new 150,000-square-foot FBI building is being built in Kapolei.

The FBI announced Tuesday that the U.S. General Services Administration has awarded a new build to suit lease to Penrose/Walsh of La Jolla, Calif., for the Honolulu Field Office. The building is expected to be completed in June 2012.

The FBI said in a news release its current facilities — located in a federal building and a leased facility — are incapable of meeting the agency’s needs.

The FBI said its existing locations are too small to meet technological infrastructure requirements.

The new building will help the FBI handle its mission of criminal investigation and intelligence, which has expanded in recent years.
